Why Solaris

Many people try search for questions such as why what when where about their interested Technology or anything else. These below lines will really helpful, useful for one does have ideas or opinions about Solaris OS. Here it comes, let we start about our ideas and facts. Solaris 10 runs on a broad range of SPARC (and x86-based) systems and compatibility with existing applications is guaranteed. This is why there are over 50,000 businesses and institutions running over 11,000 certified applications on Oracle Solaris today.
Powering Sun SPARC Enterprise servers, Solaris continues to set world records for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Oracle is investing more in Solaris than Sun did prior to the acquisition, and will continue to develop innovative technologies and enhance  Solaris.
Solaris includes many unique and innovative technologies that are uncommon to other operating system vendors—including:

  • Oracle Solaris ZFS,

What is Solaris

Before coming to know about Solaris, I like to say Solaris is a Unix like operating system which majorly works on servers and optimal for large enterprise servers.  It was originally invented by Sun Micro-systems. In 1987, AT&T and Sun were collaborated the most famous UNIX variants BSD, System V, and Xenix. This became the new trend in UNIX systems called System V Release 4 (SVR4). On September 4 1991 sun released Sun OS 4 which was based on SVR4 and it was called as Sun OS 5 internally in Sun Micro-systems. Solaris originally released with SPARC based machine which was developed by Sun itself. Currently, Solaris releases run on workstations of other vendors.
